the guineas

so everyone knows how much jared loves to find things on ksl.com.  well he found these little creatures one rainy day sometime in january and told the kids if they could each pay 5 dollars of their own money he would pitch in the extra 10 he needed to buy these furry little things.  i wasn't really excited about this but was promised they would be cleaned up after and well taken care of.

 so off they all went and home they all came with two little guinea pigs, two cages, food, hay, and all the fixins these rodents would need.  i have to admit that ginger and oreo have been fun to have around.

 they are quite funny and they make some great noises.  i am not really into animals that don't remind me that they are hungry and i was worried that these might be some of those kinds of animals.  but let me assure you that they are not!!  they totally cry when they are hungry and want to be held and played with.

 they have also been able to have playdates with their friend, hazel, who belongs to addy's friend.  the morning of lily's 2nd birthday we were sad to find ginger had passed away in the night.  since we bought them from some people (hand-me-down pets are the very best pets, by the way), we didn't really know how old they were.

 we were sad for a while and even had a nice funeral for her under a tree in the backyard.

 

oreo seems to have adapted to the loss well.  hopefully, she will stick around for a while and we won't have to do that again.  but i will be finding her a new home quite soon if some little children don't take care of her cage and clean it out.  boy, they sure can make quite a smell.
