#24 potty train lily

ever since she was about 13 months old lily would do a pee-pee dance and tell me she had to go potty.  for the life of me, i couldn't get her to even sit on the toilet.  i think she was somewhat scared of it for the longest time.  however when it came down to it, lily has been by far my easiest child to potty train.  the feeling that we are done with diapers and that she was as easy as she was makes me think that we are completely done.  this baby factory is going out of business!!  

we told her when her diapers were gone we were not going to buy anymore.  jared actually told her that they didn't sell them at sam's club anymore.  she couldn't be fooled by that and everytime we went to sam's she would intentionally point out the diapers and tell her dad that he could still buy them.

i had a present that i had bought for her for christmas but i couldn't remember where i put it at the time.  i found it a couple of months later and i decided i would wrap it and when she filled her chart she could open it.  we started on a monday morning (i was so thankful the diapers got us through the weekend).  i told her the diapers were gone.  after a few tears and some serious searching for more diapers, she decided she could do this.  she was awesome!!  she just started going on her own.  she would get quite irritated with me when i would ask her if she needed to go.  she would just tell me no and then an hour or so later she would be yelling, "i peed" from the toilet.  it was as simple as that.

i even thought we had the whole pooping thing down when she went later that night.  we were so excited we called daddy and mimi!!  however, that was short lived because then we created a fear of pooping in the toilet and she would hold it as long as she could.  we went for a few days of horrible stomachaches and a couple of accidents.  then about a two weeks after we started the potty training, daddy told her that if she pooped he would take her and let her pick her own soda at the quarter pop machines.  that did it!!  she has not had an accident since.

i think we are pretty much done with the pull-ups at night also.  she wakes up dry almost every morning.  i have to note that the girl can hold it like no other!!  she actually held it all the way from my sister's house to home last weekend, the whole seven hours!!  she wouldn't use the potty on the way down either and i had to stop about two hours from my sister's house to put a pull-up on her.  i think she has developed a fear of public toilets.  she almost has a panic attack when you take her into a public restroom.  i can't complain, since the last child i potty trained LOVES to use public restrooms and seems to have to go anytime we are out!!
