kasen's bobcat and pinewood derby

this whole scouting thing is so fun for kasen and me.  the night before pack meeting the committee chair called me and asked if he had his bobcat done with.  we had done all of the more intensive stuff.  i went to his room, got him out of bed, and we read through and discussed what we had left so i could call the chair back and kase could receive his award.  i was really glad i did because his dad and his grandpa were both there to see him receive his reward.
i have no idea what he was doing with his hand and head.
he had to pin his bobcat pin on me upside down until he did his good deed.
i sure wish i got a picture of the hug at the end.  he is definately one of my more loving, hugging children but he does not like to show any public display of affection.
this is kase receiving his bobcat stripes.

then came the cheer.  he obviously loves this part.
here are half of the cars lined up and ready for the derby.  kasen's is the one on the far left.
the other half of the cars.  dads were the funniest to watch.  they were even getting leery of how close you stood to the table for fear that you would bump the car off and ruin it.
kasen was all ready to get this party started, stripes and all.
we even had our own "pit crew."  you must grease the wheels before each race.

each car raced in each lane with a total of four races.  it was awesome hiring this man to take care of the derby.  he has such a great system that took the time of the cars and told the winner of each individual race.
obviously, there is such a precise way to put the cars on the track.  i love how dan has one eye closed making sure to line it up just right.  oh, and nate did a great job handing dan the cars.  apparently, you can only touch the body of the cars while transporting them, nothing else.
kasen took first 2 out of 4 races.  he was so proud of himself!!

kasen came in fourth overall.  it was awesome that the computer did all the work figuring this whole thing out, especially with 18 boys overall!!
all the boys won a certificate and a trophy for the race.  kasen has a blast through this whole experience. papa helped him cut his car out and insert a weighted bolt with washers into the back end of the car.  kasen spent quality time sanding and painting the car.  he was very proud of his work and we were very proud of him.  it was a great night overall!!

there was an open race after the cubs race.  braylie raced kasen's car again and took second overall with eight total cars racing.  she was so proud!!
after everything was said and done we realized that papa got away without a picture with kasen and the car they made together.  we finally found him at his church (jared and my last ward) having an activity with the young men.  it was also fun running into some old friends we haven't seen for a while.  we are so thankful that papa was able to help kase out with this little project.  they really had some quality bonding time together.

I love the shade of red Kasen's face turns when he gets really exited and nervous!
BTW- that is a great picture of Dan. The squinting makes the difference when lining up the cars jusssstttt right.

The "Dads" freaking out. I am pretty sure was just my husband. I couldn't believe how freaked out he was about it. :/ Kasen did great though! :)

I have a close up of Dan doing that same thing. I cracked me up when I downloaded my pictures.

Scouts is fun, but I'm glad we just get to do it once. :)

Way to go Kasen! He looks so grown up in his scout uniform. Glad you are both enjoying the scouting experience.
