die easter dye

so for your information i do not do egg dye.  jared is always in charge of this lovely easter tradition.  i say "lovely" sarcastically because i really don't enjoy dying easter eggs; but the kids do, so i do.

this year jared was quite sick.  he spent a good part of the day in bed (not including the 8 hour fishing trip he took).  so lucky me, i am the designated dyer this year.

the kids were so excited.  they kept asking when we were going to dye the eggs.  i was hoping they might just go to bed, but no luck.  here they are in the process of dying.

 my kids really do enjoy this tradition.  maybe it is because they are given "permission" to make these kind of messes.

 so there is one minor little detail that i should tell the world about myself.  i do not, can not, or will not follow directions for the life of me.  sometimes i really don't like to follow the instructions (they are written for people who don't like a challenge).  then there are times when i really do read the instructions but fail to follow them.  for example:

 the 2011 easter egg dying festivities are a great example of my directional failure.  i failed to put water in with the vinegar and egg dye tablets.  the eggs came out coated with some kind of dye film.  they looked disgusting and the film was rubbing off on the kids fingers as they pulled them out of the glasses.  braylie went back and read the "directions" and informed me that i forgot to add a cup of water to the vinegar and tablet.  we added water and tried to dye again, but still don't think it was right.

 lily loved dying and wanted to use the colors that everyone else had.  she was quite upset when all of her eggs were dyed.

 kasen was getting pretty creative with his white crayon.

 braylie likes to leave her eggs in the dye for as long as possible.

 addy was excited to see her name come through the dye.

 jared managed to come and join us for the end of the dying experience.  i think he overheard braylie telling me how it was done and wanted to come and rub it into my face once more that i failed to follow the directions again.  he spent most of his time at the table like this.

little unknown fact about jared:  he gets cankers quite frequently and they are quite large.  not only did he have the worst head cold but he had two large cankers in his mouth that he was struggling with.  poor guy.
